Alexandra Levits Water Cooler Wisdom Talent Acquisition Best Practices for 2019 and Beyond

Alexandra Levit's Water Cooler Wisdom Talent Acquisition Best Practices for 2019 and Beyond According to aRecruitment Process Outsourcing Association interviewwithPam Verhoff, president of Advanced RPO, because theunemployment rate is at a record low and the open job rate is at a record high, it is becoming more expensive for employers to find and attract the top talent in the marketplace. And, with the growth of automation in many fields, talent acquisition professionals may experience the especially high demand in technology fields such as robotics and computer operations. Given my role as a human resources and workforce consultant and futurist, I’ll recommend the following best practices to stay competitive in a tight labor market. Focus On Your Candidate Experience Your hiring process can blend the high tech, high touch approaches and give prospective employees a strong sense of your mission, vision, values, and culture while maintaining speed and efficiency. Your experience can answer the questions: What is this organization about and why would I want to work there? Is this the right organization and role for me? How can I be a part of what this company delivers its customers? Strong candidate experiences may convert top talent by telling a compelling story that hooks candidates on inspiring company messages. They may leverage mobile and one-click apply apps to simplify the process, create and deliver personalized messages for consistent touchpoints, and solicit and implement feedback on the recruitment and hiring experience once candidates come aboard. 7 Top Self Defense Tips For Women

7 Top Self Defense Tips For Women The following is a guest post by Nick Drossos.  His bio follows. Over 600 women are victims of rape every single day in the United States, and this accounts only for the actual reported rapes, the real number definitely being substantially higher. The biggest misconception that women have is that its never going to happen to them, that they are somehow different, protected and immune from attack.   They see it happen on the news, muggings, rapes, murders, and consider these unfortunate events as isolated and truly believe that only certain types of women are more vulnerable than they are. Relying on others, whether it is the police, a neighbor, your spouse or friends, greatly reduces your power and defers the responsibility of protecting yourself to someone that will usually not be there when disaster strikes. These are the seven top self defense tips that can make a difference between life and death. Your body language matters… a lot 55% of your communication with others is the result of your body language.   Meaning, without you even saying a word, a   attacker can detect a potential victim just by observing them.   You should therefore use your body language to your advantage:   walk with you head up, chest out, with a firm, energetic step, exuding confidence that will send a clear message that you are not someone to be messed with. Take your earphones off and stop texting Walking with confidence is great.  But you’re not helping yourself by having your noise cancelling headphones on while you are texting and walking. As a working women juggling many things, you may simply be caught up in your thoughts and not being in the present moment. When   you walk out of your house, take the time to observe your surroundings and reduce distractions to a minimum. Trust your intuition Years ago, I worked with a woman who was attacked in the street and she shared with me that moments before the attack, she had a strong sense that there was something wrong, but she dismissed that feeling and walked right into that situation.   You have no idea how many times I’ve heard similar stories.   Point is:   if your intuition is telling you something is wrong, follow it. Do not let your mind convince you otherwise. Embrace your fear You will be afraid. Fear is an inevitable feeling that you cannot escape, and the more you resist it, the more paralyzing it becomes. Nothing is more panic inducing than being in a situation where you have no idea what to do or how to react. The more you learn, train and practice self defense, the easier it will be for you to embrace and use your fear, instead of allowing fear to control you. Finesse wont cut it You have to keep it simple. The delusion that you will neutralize your attacker with a back spinning kick, a powerful punch or with an armbar is a very dangerous fantasy. These things may make sense in theory, but they rarely work in real life situations. Add to this that in a high stress situation, you lose your fine motor skills.  So trying to poke your assailant in the eyes with the tip of your fingers is a very unlikely scenario.   Using your palms, hammer fists, elbows and knees is your best bet at a successful defense. Hit him where it hurts Aim big and hit big: striking the head or groin area are the easiest targets to aim for. Use your nails, handbag, umbrella, rip into his face, pull his hair, scream, and even bite if you have to. When survival kicks in, there are no rules, and anything goes.   The more savage your response, the more likely you will set doubt in your attackers mind. When in doubt, run! Remember your objective: returning home safely to your family.   This means there is no valid reason to play hero and risking your life. The very moment you see an opening to run, you take it. Every time. Nick Drossos Nick Drossos is dedicated to teaching self-defense that will keep you and your loved ones safe from any violent conflict. His advice will teach you how to defend yourself against physical, verbal and psychological attacks. Whatever your age, gender or fitness level, you too can benefit from Nick’s self-defense strategies. Nick is a veteran of countless real violent confrontations. He has been sucker-punched, threatened with a knife, held at gunpoint â€" you name it. He uses all his vast experience to teach simple and effective ways to defuse a potential conflict or go pre-emptive when necessary. Nick has done Kung Fu, Taekwondo, Senshido, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Boxing and Kickboxing, and worked in night clubs for 7 years as a bouncer (Kokino, Wax Lounge, Buddha Bar, and Funky town). He has also worked as a bodyguard for high profile clients, and done private security during large-scale events, such as the Just for Laughs Festival. How to Recover from a Car Crash Job Interview

How to Recover from a Car Crash Job Interview Had a bit of a car crash job interview? At this point you probably wish  the world would swallow you up whole, but dont fret, its happened to the best of us. After all, were only human and unfortunately things dont always go exactly to plan. You may feel like youve blown your chances of landing the job, but this doesnt necessarily have to be the case. It is possible to rectify faults after an interview, but its important for you to weigh up whether the error is notable enough to be acknowledged or if its best to just move on. In the heat of the moment its tempting to do some urgent damage reversal, but dont rush into things in a fluster. Take the time to cool down, identify what went wrong and then make a plan about how you can counteract the mistakes made. Here are a few tips for turning a bad job interview around. 1) Dont overthink things. Reliving every little detail of the interview over and over again in your mind isnt going to change anything, so save yourself the torment! Youll only make yourself panic more and chances are that some of the things youre worrying about werent even picked up by the interviewer. The exception to this is if you missed out some crucial information when answering a question and feel that it will make a significant difference to  your chances of being hired. In this case there may be something you can do about it. 2) Look at the full picture. Sure you may feel that there were isolated moments  of the job interview which could have gone better, but what was the overall tone? If as a whole you feel that it actually went well, then it probably isnt worth confronting any mistakes you made and it may even help you to look at the negatives in a more positive light. Its easy to be self-critical under stress, but the areas you excelled in will probably outweigh your downfalls, so dont beat yourself up. 3) Send a follow up email. Resist the urge to apologise for any mistakes you feel you made in your interview, as this will only flag up errors that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. Its always recommended to send a thank you email after attending a job interview, so why not kill two birds with one stone? If theres anything that you feel strongly about sharing with your interviewer, such as relevant  experience or an overlooked responsibility in a previous role, now is your chance to slip it into conversation. Before acting, its important for you to assess whether the issue is  really worth addressing. Is it a make or break situation? If so, you can bring it up as a bit of an endnote to your thank you email; just keep it short. The best way to spin it is  that it wasnt a mistake and rather an after thought that you felt would be relevant to add after reflecting on your conversation. 4) Learn from your mistakes. Use all of your mistakes as a learning curve. Sometimes these blunders have to occur so that you know what to work on in future, so turn those negatives into positives! If nerves were your downfall, perhaps there are some techniques you can try  to calm yourself down ahead of an interview in the future. Whereas if it was a lack of preparation that caused the problem, make sure you do all the required research ahead of your next one! A friend or family member may even be willing to help you practice. Now theres an idea! 5) Keep calm and carry on. A lot of the time we dont recognise our mistakes until we reflect back at an interview once its over, however if you  notice that youve slipped up while youre still in there, its essential that you dont get yourself in a flap!  Remain poised and focus on answering the next question to the best of your ability. If theres something you forgot to mention, wait until later on to bring it up as you may be able to fit it in with another question being asked. You still have the chance to turn things around, even if you think youve let yourself down earlier on, so dont give up trying. The same goes for your job search in general. Just because this particular interview didnt go as smoothly as hoped, it doesnt mean youre not going to nail the next one! Put it behind you and move on.  The more interviews you go for, the more confident youll become.

Job Searching and What to Consider When Applying - CareerAlley

Job Searching and What to Consider When Applying - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. Searching for a job can be difficult. There are so many opportunities and expectations out there. Knowing where to look can be difficult, especially for someone just starting out in the job market or returning to the job market for the first time. Even when you receive a job offer, its hard to know whether or not to accept the job. Tailor your resume for each job to show the skills that you have related to that specific job Tweet This WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN ACCEPTING A JOB When you finally get a job offer, it is important to take your time to make sure that the job is the right fit for you. It is important to make sure that the job fits your needs both professionally and personally. If a company offers employee discount programs, always take those into consideration. Employee discount programs such as Cabelas employee discounts can give discounts on gear and supplies that you have been wanting. If your company has these types of programs, it will help you save a lot of money. Here are some tips to make the job search process easier to navigate. 1. DETERMINE WHAT JOB YOU WANT AND ARE ELIGIBLE FOR In order to narrow down your job search, you should know what you want to do and are capable of doing. Know what you are passionate about and know your strengths and weaknesses in those areas. Search for keywords in your industry and skill set to help narrow your search down. 2. DEFINE YOUR PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL PRIORITIES It is also important to know what you are looking for not only professionally, but personally as well. Make a list of things that you must know about before you accept a job. You might want to think of things like commute time, salary, and benefits. Also, make a list of things that would be nice to have but arent a priority. These are things such as the type of company culture, or whether or not you want to work for a small company or large company. This will also help narrow your search down. Social media is no longer just for sharing cat photos and recipe videos; it has also become a necessary tool for employers across the globe. In fact, Business News Daily reports that 70% of hiring managers screen candidates using their social media accounts, even when theyre not provided by the applicant. This makes it entirely possible that in todays competitive job market, your online persona could be the difference between you getting a position at your dream company or not. That said, here are some pointers you should keep in mind about your social media presence if you want to land the perfect job. How Social Media Can Make or Break Your Job Search 3. CLEAN UP YOUR ONLINE PRESENCE Potential employers can do an online search for you. It is important to keep your online presence as clean as possible. Clean up anything on your social media sites you do not want your potential employer to see. Also, try to keep your social media profiles as private as possible. When you are setting up professional job search profiles, make them stand out to employers by showcasing your skills, strengths, and passions. 4. PREPARE YOUR RESUME AND COVER LETTER Before you apply for a job, it is important to prepare a resume that shows off your skills and experience. Tailor your resume for each job to show the skills that you have related to that specific job. It is also important to have a cover letter. This is a letter to the hiring manager explaining why you want the job and why you are the perfect person for the job. This should be personalized and tailored for each individual job as well. 5. NETWORK AND REACH OUT FOR REFERENCES Professional references are very important when searching for jobs. They will vouch for your work and your work ethic. Reach out to your former co-workers, especially direct managers, and see if they will sing your praises for each job. It is also important to network and build up your professional contacts. You can do that by joining online groups related to your industry or by going to industry events in your area. When it comes to accepting a job offer, there are a few things that Forbes.com says that you need to consider. One of the things you need to consider is the title and responsibilities of the job. Make sure you understand what the job entails and make sure you are able to fulfill the demands. Also, nail down your salary and know how much and how often you will get paid. This will help you budget. Understand your benefits and get them in writing. Know about your health care, 401K, and how much time off you are allowed. Finally, understand your schedule and know when you need to be at work and when you need to be available for your boss to reach you. What's next? Ready to take action?
